History of Let’s Play Music

Established in 1993 by Jay and Jeanne Latulippe, Let’s Play Music, formerly East Derry School of Music, has been devoted to excellence in music education in the greater Derry, NH and Londonderry, NH area. Jay’s family has been in the music studio business since the 1930’s when Jay’s grandparents opened a chain of music studios throughout New England and the Northeast. Jay began studying music at his parent’s music studio, Rosita Lee Music Center, now located in Hudson, NH, where he participated in private lessons, band programs, recitals, and the New England Music Festival and Competition throughout his youth.

Today at Let’s Play Music

Let’s Play Music offers a wide variety of private and group lessons including piano, guitar, voice, drums, saxophone, trumpet, accordion, and more. We hold several optional recitals each year, perform with our group Stagecraft, and students can participate in the New England Music Festival and Competition.

Our Methods at Let’s Play Music

We have developed our teaching methods over many years with thousands of students and by reviewing hundreds of music books finding the best way to deliver the finest music education using highest quality musical materials. Our own method books are published by Santorella Publications and sold throughout the world. Our piano method “Let’s Play Jazz and More…!” teaches students how to play popular and jazz styles right away even if they have never played an instrument, making music fun to learn and teaching students many skills that are not covered in traditional piano methods. We also use a wide variety of other music methods so we can tailor the lessons to meet the needs of each individual student.
Let's Play Music's Student Achievement System allows each student to set goals, track progress, and gain recognition for their accomplishments. Once students have completed certain skill and song requirements they receive a ribbon or a certificate to mark their achievement.
At Let’s Play Music, we encourage students to play duets with other students and play in one of the many groups. Friendships develop making playing more fun and music becomes a social activity not just something students do by themselves. From a musical standpoint, duets and group playing teaches rhythm, timing, precision, and listening skills.
Last but not least, we take great pride in the quality of our private lessons. Our teachers are professional musicians with college and real world experience. Many of our instructors have graduate degrees and all create a fun and supportive environment for their students. Let’s Play Music teachers offer more than instruction on playing your instrument. They also teach theory, sight reading, improvisation, memorization techniques, composition, music history, ear training, songwriting, arranging, and performance techniques.
