Voice Lessons
Ages 5 to Adult
Anyone can improve their voice whether they are an absolute beginner or a seasoned performer. Our teachers at Let's Play Music will help you sing better even if you have never sung before. Whether you would like to sing in a church choir, school chorus, prepare for an audition, or just learn to sing for your own enjoyment, our teachers provide a supportive environment where you feel comfortable improving your voice. All our vocal instructors are also instrumentalists so they are able to accompany students or they can teach you to accompany yourself.
It is always a good idea to take piano lessons in addition to voice. Students will learn to play and read melodies they sing and learn to accompany themselves. Piano also trains the student’s ear which helps with singing pitches properly. Piano lessons for voice students ages 10 and up are optional but recommended in a second half-hour lesson. Because of the development of the vocal chords, piano lessons for voice students under 10 are required but can occur within the half hour voice lesson. A full-sized portable keyboard is sufficient for this purpose.
In voice lessons, students learn to:
- sing in any style (pop, jazz or classical)
- read music
- sight read
- improve tone and range
- play a vocal melody on the piano
- scat singing
- sing in foreign languages
- work on ear training
- understand music theory
- We always make music lessons fun!
Voice students can perform in our recitals and music festival, plus they are able to enter the New England music festival and competition. Students can participate in our choral group and many band programs that we offer.
